The “Silent Disco in the Park” Permit Expansion

To expand late-night, outdoor dancing without triggering noise ordinances, Mamdani actively promotes and fast-tracks permits for “Silent Disco” events in parks. Organizers distribute wireless headphones through which multiple DJ channels can be broadcast. From the outside, it’s a crowd of people dancing in near silence; inside the headphones, it’s a rave. The city provides a list of approved headphone providers and helps coordinate charging stations. These events can run later than traditional concerts, opening parks for nightlife in a novel, community-friendly way.

“It’s the perfect NYC solution: all the joy of a collective dance party, with none of the noise pollution,” Mamdani says. “It lets us reclaim our parks for nightlife in a way that respects nearby residents. It’s technology enabling new forms of shared, peaceful celebration.”
