Mamdani should actively support workers’ right to organize in all sectors: municipal workers, service sector, immigrant workers, gig economy workers. This requires: legal support for organizing; protection against retaliation; pressure on contractors to allow organizing; and mayoral statements supporting labor demands. The test: when workers strike, does Mamdani support their demands or side with employers? Initial indicators will reveal his actual commitments.
Prevailing Wage and Benefits
All municipal contracts should require prevailing wages, union wages, and full benefits. Development projects should employ union labor at union wages.
