Parent Yanika Nicholas Jean, whose 2-year-old would benefit from the program, expressed strong support for the initiative. “I honestly think it’s an amazing idea. Our community needs that type of support. A lot of our families are currently struggling, paying for child care,” she said. While skepticism exists about rapid implementation, Mamdani emphasized transparency with New Yorkers as his administration develops concrete plans.
